thank you Flaxen for the info and direction you provided, it was great and removed most of spyfalcon. after following the instructions on the site you provided i still had some annoying bits of spyfalcon hanging on.
i ended up importing some freeware called spy blaster from this site:

it found the last remaining three places where spyfalcon was still lurking and allowed me to get rid of them. what an insidious malicious piece of rubbish to have floating around the place. And they are probably getting rich from people who purchase spyfalcon just to get rid of the annoying pop-ups.
Anyway, thank you to all who provided me with advice and direction, it was most appreciated.
