Windows XP hates CFS!

I just picked up a new copy of the old, original Combat Flight Simulator! I've upgraded from Windows 98SE to XP since I last played the game. I have had so much trouble trying to get the video to work that I deleted the game from my Hard Drive. It would appear that Windows XP won't tolerate the game. It's not the video card because I loaded it up on another hard drive with the Win98 OS and both of my video cards (NVidia 32 RAM and Xabre 128 RAM AGP) work fine with CFS. In Windows XP, the program starts up OK but after a minute or so the display goes blank and I can still hear the audio. I ran the screen resolution to the lowest I have (600x480x16 colors) to no avail! Could there possibly be a way to make the game compatible with XP? It functions perfectly with Win 98.
