I formatted my DeskTop and while doing that I forgot to take out External Hard drive USB connection ( IOMEGA USB) and its turned on.

After formatting, a message showing that "new hardware has been connected" has pop'd up on the desktop, but I don't see the harddrive in My Computers.

Then I verified if it is displayed in Disk Management. It is showing the Hard Disk as DISK 1. I tried to add an Alphabet (E) to it, and it started formatting the drive. I stopped it immediately

Now when I am connecting the hard drive to laptop/desktop, Drive E is being displayed in My Computer and when I double click on it. it displays a message "DRIVE E IS NOT FORMATTED, DO U WANT TO FORMAT IT".

I know that data is lost in it. So I searched on Internet and found a software " getback data from ntfs " and ran it. It scanned the drive for 3 hrs and at the end it did not display any files in the drive.

Can anyone tell me....What exactly could have happend. And What is the best way to recover the data from the drive. I heard that you can retrieve the data from the drives even after formating it, is it correct?
