Then i go to device manager right click on the audio controller and click update driver. from there i choose the advanced option, click dont search, click i have disk then browse and select the file from there, i get the same thing everytime with every driver. mabey im doing something wrong or dont know. thanks again im sure we can fix this .

Set System Restore Point( this is available only for Win XP)

Start / All programes / Accessories / System Tools / System Rstore / Create a restore point, then give a name I usally use Before and the name I am installing.

The way I install is I have a Folder in My Documents named Downloads, everything goes in there, then before I unzip I create a New folder in the Download folder and name it by the file name but add unzipped to it. Then I double click the unzipped folder. I have downloaded this file, it has 3 files the one to install is CWAWDM System file 57kb.

Installing useing Device manager for Win XP
when asking to search win updates, No, not this time / Next / Advanced / Don't search, I will choose the driver to install / it then shows the driver you have downloaded.i think the reason is you are trying to update the Audio Controller when it should be the SoundMax audio.

hope this helps
