\\\guys \\\nemsis Rooster can't know much about Linux - so let him try a live cd - this runs from the CD-drive and doesn't need installing. With it he can get his internet account logged-in and a few other things like wordprocessing, maybe printing (esp with HP printer).
Ubuntu will mail a neat distro -with two discs:
1) full distro of selected components including Firefox and OpenOffice suite and 2) a live distro to tempt you to load the full thing.
Warning_ I loaded Ubuntu onto a separate HDD - if you load with windows present there can be conflicts and always Back-Up valuable data files.
The live distro prevents you using your CD-rom so any picture files you want to mangle (in Gimp=photoshop) must be introduced separately (eg USB dongle?)
Full install is via an ISO-image be warned this causes much grief...create the working install CD using NERO under your Win OS. It's not easy!
Linux requires the HDD to be partitioned....take care......
The Linux partitioning program is poor and need some patience. However, to feel the quality a live-disro (CD) is very good, if a tad slow.
If you can run the CDrom you don't even need a HDD (so they say!).
There are some issues with Firefox but it's a good basic browser...and all of this is FREE.......so there is little to lose, just be careful with your valuable data.
Cheers..H.
