I found it!
I got your post as results of my support search, but I found to fix it:

1. Run the setup of WMP10 as you regularly do to get the error msg.
2. Once you get the error msg, DO NOT CLICK CANCEL. Instead go to Start --> Run and type "%TEMP%" (without "").
3. Find the folder there named "IXP000.TMP" or similar. Open it...
4. You will know that it holds the contents of the Windows Media Player setup because you should find the "wmplayer.exe" file in there (among many other)
5. Copy all the files in that folder into another folder. Close the "IXP000.TMP" folder.
6. Go the new folder where you copied all files and double-click on the "wmsetsdk.exe" file... and follow the instructions (you could get "download msgs")...
