I mean the driver information does include the files ks.sys, ksproxy.ax, and ksuser.dll. Could it be that these files or their registry information has been somehow corrupted by some past virus or the system update itself?

For this to work you need a Win XP disc, it's a System File Check. Go to Run / type "sfc /scannow" ( without the quotes and note the space after sfc ) the have your Win XP disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. The programe will run then close, it gives no information

Hope this helps
