You said you had 3 sticks of 125 RAM, I'm assuming you mean 128?

I would pull all but one of the sticks (128 if plenty to run XP for a few tests) and try running Norton. I've seen manyh instances where page faults and COMPLETE hangups (cannot ctl+alt+del out) are caused by either bad memory, or memory not being compatible. Even if the mem program checks the memory out fine, they might still be bad.

I had a similar problem where I couldn't render anything in Poser 4.0, and 3D gamed would freeze. I took the CPU back, they tested it with some CPU burn-in program and said it was fine. I made them try a replacement CPU and that fixed the problem. So try switching out the memory.
