Please help. My business depends on my computer and it is sick. System info:
Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633 : Service Pack 1) running on an Emachine S2482 with a 1.99ghz AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor with 1.2GB of DDR ram (although for some reason the system only shows 736MB of ram), 80GB hard drive and connected to a Linksys wireless-G 2.4ghz network as the primary (hardwired) portal to the internet over broadband Comcast cable internet connections.
Somehow I have become infected with Backdoor.Win32.Beastdoor.ay. It is in the System Volume Information folder. I can not gain access to this folder no matter what I try, and I have tried everything I can find in these forums. Yes, I have disabled the restore function (and obviously I have set to show hidden files and unchecked the box for system files to be hidden). Yes, I have tried to use CACLS in DOS to change folder permissions for my account and the computer won’t do it.
No matter what I have tried when I click on the folder it throws the “Access is Denied” window.
Recently my Eudora 7.0 program has begun maintaining a top window position even over the command bar. I have to minimize it to see any other open window. A strange window pops up momentarily every few minutes and becomes the dominant window for about half a second.
I’m at my wits end. HELP!
