Hi Barbara

I already downloaded the Via Ac97 drivers from Techguys website but suprise suprise same result code 10. I wonder is it possible through some glitch that actual onboard sound device isnt AC97 and thus causing the problem.
When I format and load a fresh install of XP pro but before I install any drivers, if I look in device drivers through control panel there is a yellow warning flag alongside 'multimedia audio device' with no reference to any specific soundcard. Then if I click update driver and point to the AC97 driver I had before which was working fine when it installs I get the code 10 error.

I have since tried about 10 different versions of the AC97 WDM codec combo driver which I have acquired from the internet but every one gives code 10
I even tried in desperation to load a realtek ac97 driver but had same response code 10

If this was a tower I could easily just buy and install a new soundcard and driver but being a notebook that option is not applicable
