If the audio device in device manager has not started then you will have no audio at all. What you need to do is tell us the reason why the driver is not starting, there can be more than one reason.
Also, look under the resources tab for the properties of that driver. Possibly update the audio driver too. Is this audio driver compatible with your operating system?

hi comptechgirl, ive tried your suggestions, ive looked under the resources tab and it says (for all drivers etc) they are working fine, all drivers have been updated , in the sounds and audio device box under audio and voice tab it has modem #0 as the default and if i use te drop down box it will not let me choose my device, and i now get a message saying there are no actice mixer devices available, do you have any other suggestions please
