Try enabling the soundcard that you disabled, maybe that is connected to the mixer device? It is an easy step, so if i am wrong here, easily disable it again.
My mixer is the realtec AC'97 adapter and it shows up as soundman as a taskbar icon, but maybe that is because that is the driver i have installed.
Have you tried just reinstalling the current driver you have installed, maybe the mixer was corrupted and needs a reinstall?
