i have this problem as well but my keyboard locks up too and it might just lock for a couple of seconds then about 5 minuites later they both lock up completely and say i hit the start key then the I key while it was frozen, if it does unfreeze it will do that command. also when it freezes if i was say holding my left mouse button and the letter f it would hold those two things down and if i was on microsoft word the page would be filled with f's until i reboot. this problem has only been a problem for 2 weeks and i've have XP for about 3, or 4 years.
