I'm helping a friend with a computer - there is no sound coming from the speakers. The volume control is gone from all programs>>accessories>>entertainment.
This is a gateway computer on winXP
and in the control panel under Sounds and Audio Devices properties it says No Audio Device under the Volume tab plus everything is greyed out, and under the Audio Tab in Sound Playback it has the default device as Modem #1 Line Playback and there are no others listed in the drop down menu
I checked in the device manager under the sound, video and game controller section, and there are no ?'s or !'s, everything seems to be fine

after downloading and installing that file I get the error "Driver not found!" Reeboot your system and run this setup again"
I have also downloaded the drivers directly from gateway, and still can't get any sound. Any ideas on what else to try?????
