Check this out first, to see if Realtek is your default audio
once the driver was installed, went to control panel> sounds and audio devices> audio tab. in this window you can choose default audio playback and recording devices, but i did nothing for a while because i was thinking of hard ware. but when i opened the drop down boxes for playback and recording the driver was there so this part of the control panel must treat the driver as a device rather than the sound card. nb the setting it was on had it trying to use part of the 56kbps modem for sound why would this be? hope this helps others. Pete
Thanks to Peter22
