i can't load up the driver suggested by either SiS or HPB, as they both say the driver could not be loaded, right at the start.
can you give me any insights?

as this is onboard graphics it does need to be enabled in the BIOS
Try this driver, if the same thing happens then the BIOS neds to be checked, also the chipset driver
Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
