RAM = 1.6GHz, 256MB (was 512...my husband removed 256 and put it in the other computer for gaming purposes)

there is no sound output)

If you have a Win disc try a System File Check go to Run / type "sfc /scannow" ( without the quotes and note the space after sfc ) have your Win disc available in case sfc needs to repair or replace any files. It will run and close on completion, no alerts or messages will show.

these are the drivers for your OptiPlex DX240
First get the Chipset - Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility - install then Restart your comp
Second get the ADI 1885 audio driver and install
SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING EACH DRIVER JUST IN CASE
