We had the same problem after using remote assistance through MSN 8.x
The one asking for assistance used a Benq laptop, and got the typing problem.
The problem is caused because somehow the ' gamerzmode' of the laptop keyboard is activated (see:

Press Ctrl+Fn to activate Gamerz Mode. Press and shift key (Shift/Ctrl/Fn) to exit Gamerz Mode.
Also try Ctr+Numlock or Ctr+Shift+Numlock if above didnt work.
