Computer Management - Device Manager - Sound, Video and Games Controllers - Avance AC97 Audio - Properties tell the next:

Status: Driver is enabled but has not been started.

and Device status: This device is working properly

I don t know is the folowing part relevant. I am not using native speakers( which came with machine when I bought it), I use speakers or head phones which I bought without any soft . For them I use green and pink round slots at the back of the machine. If I want to switch I just switch the pins. It didn't cause the problems for the years.

I have Legacy Audio Drivers listed under Sounds video and games controllers, but no multimedia devices under their properties. I am a bit lost with all those drivers, devices and hardwares.

Might be something wrong with the sound card?

Check this out
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

Hope this helps
