Hey my name is lachlan and im aving a problem with my windows xp, i just got it and it wont install and i av no idea why, i put in the cd key, it acceses my computer fine then restarts then as its in the preparing to install part it comes up with this message:

"An error has been encounted that prevents Setup from coninuing.

One of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

Manifest Parse Error: Invalid at the top level of the document.
Press OK to view the Setup log file"

I do this and get a new message saying

"Error:
SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "E:\1386\asms\6000\MSFT\WINDOWS\COMMON\CONTROLS\CO NTROLS.MAN" on line 0

I previously had windows 98 installed and when accessing my computer a few burning devices and some sound card thingy was uncompatable, but i was thinking it would still install. My computer us not old "Pentum 4 and around 1.5 Ghz and 30Gb space and im not sure of rom" Does anyone av any idea's thanx.
