was trying to print a doc today and my printer that is plugged into a usb port came up with an error message, "usb port not connected". have tried restarting, changing cables, changing ports, changing ports and restarting, printer port capture, aaaarrrggghhh
also uninstalled and reinstalled printer software.
still no joy. tried to plug in a card reader and a thumb drive and also cannot see them. tried them in multiple ports and still no luck. i have two usb cards (i think that's what they're called) and one usb slot near my power supply, none seem to be working.
my thought was if it were one of the cards ok, i could replace it. but none of the usb ports on different cards seem to be working.
last, under device manager, i have an error next to pci communication device and pci universal serial bus. tried to update drivers, but wasn't able to.
any ideas?
I am not the most sophisticated computer user, so i hope this isn't a dumb ? for you folks.
oh yeah, i'm running windows me, zone alarm, AVG from grisoft antivirus, spybot s&d, adaware and hjt. and everything was fine three days ago. just finished virus scan (clean), scandisc (all errors fixed), adaware, and spybot (clean). yesterday tried to print, got the error message, turned the printer off then back on and it printed fine. today, that doesn't help. the printer will copy stuff and print, but just won't print from the computer.
