in my BIOS i have ac'97 which is on auto which means my audio should run off the onboard but it isnt.
In sound and audio device properties in control panel it tells me no audio device, and all selections are grayed out.
I've tried uninstalling EVERYTHING, all the drivers dealing with the sound and the application and then reinstalling but that doesnt work, i checked services to see if any of the audio services are stopped, none.
i have no sound card what so ever in a PCI slot at the moment i did a while ago but it never worked so i switched to back to my onboard and it worked, my dad got on my computer and thought he could fix the problem with the sound card, did something i dont know and now nothing works -.- which is why i said maybeh its the audio legacy thing cause when i open it, its empty but then again i dont know. thanks for the help

You need the Chipset driver, go back to Asus
Utilities / Win XP - Intel Chipset / install then RESTART your comp
then install audio
SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
Hope this helps
