Hi,

I am also experiencing the same issues.
I re-installed Windows XP Pro SP2 today and I can't get the audio to work.
I have the exact same audio cards.
I downloaded the Realtek driver thingy you linked to and it installed fine, I enabled the on-board sound in BIOS but I still don't get any sound.
The "Windows audio service" is set to automatic.
Before I installed the drivers for the Realtek audio, I wasn't able to start the game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas because it said I didn't have a sound card installed.
Now I can start the game but I get no sounds.

What do I have to do to get the sound to work?

Edit: I have a Compaq Presario 8000 with a 5.1 audio system if it matters.
