I am very careful when it comes to having unecessary processes running. Every process I allow to run is essential to my particular system and the applications I use. Anything else gets the chop. Yet despite that I still have 32 running. Since you are using some applications which I don't use (like nero inCD for example which runs two separate processes) it's not surprising you have clocked up 42.
You need to look at those processes which are tagged with your user name. They belong to third-party applications you have installed. Do you actually need them all? The others are Windows system processes which should be left alone.

thanks for that i will try and dwindle them down when i have more time to sit and find out what they are before i actually do anything i remeber last time i found a site that told you what each process was i will have to find it again the only one i cudnt find was the VM_ one really dont know what that one is, anyone know?
