modem not recognized/wrong port!
I recently installed Windows 98SE on a 2nd hard drive and no matter what I do, my OS refuses to recognize my modem. It's not the modem, it works fine with Windows XP. I had this problem in the past, but the CompuServe setup used to fix this, but I am not with CS anymore. I have removed and replaced the modem many times, but Windows 98SE doesn't like it. The modem used to operate on Port 5 in prior 98SE installations, but when I use ADD HARDWARE, Windows 98SE only searches Port 1 and 2, where the modem ain't. Since installing 98SE, I keep getting the message that the "PCI SERIAL CONTROLLER" driver isn't installed. It's not on the OS disk and not on the SOYO installation disk. Where could I find it? Could this malfunctioning controller be causing the trouble?
