Problem with audio on Windows ME

I recently had a new hard drive installed on my computer and Windows ME formatted to it. Up until yesterday, the sound was working just fine. I had not messed with any of the drivers or anything. Now, none of my sound is working. I first noticed this problem when I ripped some CD's onto my comp. and when I attempted to play them on my WMP it gives me an error that says;

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."

My volume is on and the speakers are plugged in so I'm guessing there's something wrong with the software. My specs are:

Windows ME 4.90.3000
Pentium III Processor
127MB RAM
AC'97 Sound Card

Once again I'd like to point out that my sound was working perfectly fine when I got my computer out of the shop not even two days ago.

If anyone has any idea what I should do about this, help would be very greatly appreciated.
