I tried going to Gateway and downloading their sound driver in the "My Sound Downloads" area, a program called 7513081.exe - Sound Blaster Audigy driver, vers. 5.12.4.252, but it didnt seem to work. Do I need to do some installing/uninstalling before trying to run this program? Or am I in the wrong area. Thx in advance for any help.

You need to point Windows to the driver to install.

This is how Gateway install the driver

Installation

Download the file to the desktop, and then perform the following steps.

1. On your screen, double-click the 7513081.exe file.

2. The Win-Zip Self-Extractor window opens and unzips the files to the C:\Cabs\7513081 folder.

3. Close all open programs.

4. From the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\7513081\Audigy.exe. Click OK.

5. In the Gateway Installer dialog box, click Begin to start the installation.

6. The installation may prompt you for the Windows CD, if so, place the CD in the drive, and then click OK.

7. When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

Any problems just post back

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
