You need to check the BIOS, I think it's set to Auto and should show [Enabled] for the onboard audio
Everything is done on the keyboard, these are the keystrokes

Press DEL key at post to enter Setup - the Main Menu opens

using arrow keys go to Integrated Peripherals - Press Enter

look at the On-Chip AC97 - if set to [Auto] or [Disabled] - use the PgUp key to change to [Enabled]
Then press the F10 key to Exit & Save changes
the comp will then complete to boot and load Windows
install the audio driver again if neccessary
Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
