Cool will not boot, has blank screen

I have a Compaq Presario R3306US Notebook PC with 1.6GHz Mobile Athlon XP-M processor 3000+. It has 512MB DDR SDRAM (2 x 256MB) at 333MHz and 256K L2 Cache in the microprocessor. Using Windows XP home edition. The computer failed to boot and just had a blank screen. Following the trouble shooting guide at the hp website, the suggestion was to reseat the memory which I did and did not help. The troubleshooting guide also suggested that some computers have another memory module underneath the keyboard which would indicate disassembly procedures. Never having disassembled a laptop I took it to the Geek Squad and told them what I had done and about the memory in the microprocessor. They kept the computer for over two weeks and their diagnosis was a bad motherboard. Having nothing to lose I disassembled the computer myself and found the microprocessor underneath the heat sink. I removed the chip and reseated it. The computer worked perfect after assembly. The problem is that after a week of use it happened again and again I reseated all memory and it started working. My question is what makes it do this? Why does the memory have to be reseated and what is the cause? I would like a fix once and for all.
