Thank you "justask", To those newcomers like me, still struggling with this issue. The experience of others is always helpful. Having resolved the above I found that I could no longer lock Icons where I wanted them. Solution was to remove the "Auto arrange" tickfound under "arrange Icons By" drop down on desk top.
