Multimedia Audio Controller problem
Here is my scenario:
Just recently installed a new hard drive on my laptop, my original one developed several bad sectors. I reinstall Windows XP from the OS Disc provided when I purchased the laptop. On Gateway's website, I've found all the driver downloads needed and have installed them, except for the sound downloads, I consistently get an error message.
Currently under Device Manager, I have "Multimedia Audio Controller" listed under "Other Devices" with a yellow !, and my laptop does little more then beep. Everything else seems to be functioning fine except audio. I've been in touch with Gateway Tech Support, and here's what I've done so far.
1: redownloaded files and attempted to install again
2: uninstall all audio devices, redownloaded files and attempted to install under Safe Mode
3: underwent the Destructive Restore process (formats harddrive) from the OS Disc again, reinstalled files
The error I get is after running the Setup.exe for the audio drivers, and restart my laptop to complete the installation, upon restarting I get an error message:
This system does not support the driver you are attempting to install.
Gateway is still investigating it, I am looking for other assistance obviously.
The software attempt to install is from SigmaTel, whom does not support end-user products, including driver downloads.
