Hmm, I could pass a comment here....
Your mouse, network card, usb stuff could reactivate it.
Sleep is dangerous if you have unsaved work and the power is lost. Use hibernate, it's safer and just as good as shutting down, but startup is much faster.
Even works in the middle of a game.
