What's weird is that when I go to Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices/Hardware tab and click properties and expand the Audio item Windows gives me a conflict (The computer is at my father-in-laws and not here now so I cannot elaborate) but when I click on 'properties' for the Audio option, it states that under status that the driver is installed but not enabled...

I've read elsewhere about KB888111 but don't know whether it shouldn't be installed or SHOULD be installed

The KB888111 is incorporated in the Realtek download, have you checked the BIOS to see if the audio is Enabled
