You need to check if audio is set to [Auto] in the BIOS, Packard Bell are very good at showing how to access the BIOS look here http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it... v_Peripheral

All commands are done through the keyboard, this is the path

As soon as comp boots press the F2 key'
Main menu opens
use right arrow key to select the Advanced tab
use down arrow key to select Peripheral Configuration - press Enter
Audio Device should be set to [Auto] if not down arrow key to select and press the + key to change
Press F10 key to Save & Exit
y to accept changes

the comp will then continue to load windows

Install audio again

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
