Best way to format a drive like that is to do it using a Win98 boot disk. then convert the partition to a NTFS drive and you should be good. Also look into a program called Norton Partition Magic 8. its a utility that allows you to do some pretty amazing stuff within windows....without having to use a CMD prompt.
