I was poking around and I managed to find a driver that fixed my sound. I didn't know which one it was, but I thought it would be either 8338 or 8738 because I saw those numbers after running DriverScan (and I was looking for PCI drivers after seeing that too). So I just downloaded both. A site I literally just found is http://www.esnips.com/doc/0d83144d-8...738_WDM_0639XP , and that's for the 8738 driver. http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/driver has both, plus ones for Onboard Audio and Multimedia Card Reader. I clicked on PCI, then downloaded each of the XP drivers for 8738, 8338, and 8788 since there was an eight in that. And Onboard Audio 9738 for good measure.
After that, I went home and used the Add Hardware wizard, specified the location of one of the unzipped folders (pretty sure it was CMI8738_WDM_0639XP), and BAM! I got sound! I have to tell you, I had next to no idea what I was doing, so I don't know if it would work for you. But you can always set a Restore Point before so you got a safety net. Good luck!
If any of you experts have an opinion on this, please tell me about it.
