you need to check that audio is Enabled in the BIOS - all commands are done through the keyboard
as soon as the comp boots press the F2 key - the BIOS Setup menu opens

use right arrow key to go to Advanced menu

down arrow key go to Peripheral Configurations Submenu -press Enter

if Audio is Disabled use the F9 key to set defaults which is Enabled
Press F10 to Save & Exit
y to accept changes
XP will then load
Install audio driver again
Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
