Unless the price difference is allmost nil, I wouldn't bother. In any case, a small overclock negates the cost.

Depends on the cost. My bro says his desktop apps fly on a quad. Games not written to make actual use of 4 cores won't specifically use the full power that is possible, but even so it will have an impact.
Buy the slower CPU and clock it up. This will save a lot of dosh. FX, my 1.86 C2D runs at 2.86 gig. Painless, no cost and none damaging.
