Windows XP sound issues

Hi Everybody.

I have come across a very strange error concerning windows xp.

My pc's sound disapeared suddenly and when i rebooted my comp it would not start up until i removed the Creative XFi extreme music sound card.

Obviously i thought the sound card was faulty, i removed it and enabled the onboard audio only to find the same problem, the pc would not start up. It would get to the loading screen or just past it and then freeze.

When i remove the Creative card and disable the onboard audio the pc runs 100% fine. I have tried to uninstall all sound related drivers and software even tried to uninstall a dvr bases surveilance system thinking it may be clashing but no success.

I get no error messages regarding this problem and there are not hints in the event logs.

Anybody can give me some advice as to where i should start or has someone had a similar problem?
