I used this forum to get to the motherboard website where we downloaded the adio driver. When we installed it part way through, the blue screen of death appeared. Now the device name is listed but still no driver. I had this problem minus the blue screen when i got the computer, but I corrected it. I just can't remember how. So I hooked my hard drive up as a slave to the computer and tried to find the driver with the updater and I was found and partly copied, but midway through the I got a blue screen again. What can I do to get the sound working on my friends computer?

Missing Microsoft Security Hotfixes [Back to Top]
These required security hotfixes (using the 05/13/2008 Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary) were not found installed. Note: CIS benchmarks require that Critical and Important severity security hotfixes must be installed.

go here to Dell http://support.dell.com/support/down...D=DIM_CEL_3000

install the Chipset driver this tells the OS which INF files it needs - then Restart your comp

then install the ADI 198x audio, if the setup.exe does not work install this way

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
