Check the BIOS to see if HD Audio Conroller is set to Auto

As soon as comp boots press the F2 key
select Advanced menu
Integrated Peripherals - press Enter
Via OnChip PCI Device - press Enter
HD Audio Controller should be set to Auto if not select and use the + key to change
Press F10 key to save & Exit
y to accept changes
comp will load XP
