The options of SOUNDMAN.EXE, ALSNDMGR, and a few others did not have the normal small box with a green check beside it. It said it was 'Not digitally signed'....could these be the problems I'm having with the actual sound?

go here to HP and check the BIOS to see if audio [Enabled] make a note of the settings before you change anything, look at Step 7
