I registered just to say thank you vercetti, I deleted the registry key for the filters and yes as soon as I rebooted the system, popped in a dvd, and it was recognized and played. sending a bouquet to you!!!
and definately bookmarked this site. For those who do not know how to properly read and delete keys in the registry, please be careful and follow instructions carefully. But this suggestion worked like a charm.
