I don't know if this will help anything, but when my computer was done doing the system recovery (whichever the one is that doesn't take it back to factory settings) when I got to my desktop some sound hardware management stuff popped up talking about "new installed devices" and I just clicked out of them thinking either I didn't need to mess with it, or I'd just do it later.

Pop the side off the comp and look to see what motherboard you have, it will be printed on the board
