Infact sound card is not recognized by the system at all. I read and tried couple of steps detailed in some of the threads here... with no luck.

Here is the information someone out here might need in order to help resolve this issue.

Desktop: Dell Inc. Vostro 200
OS: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3, v.3264 (build 2600)
Board: Dell Inc. 0CU409
Serial Number: ..CN7360478L025F.

Under "Other Devices" in device manager I see PCI device with a yellow question mark (un-deteremined device!!).

Here is the excerpt about the problem device -
PCI Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_293E&SUBSYS_02381028&REV_02\3&241 1E6FE&0&D8 The drivers for this device are not installed.

I tried lot of methods to install my sound card driver but could not succeed.
Please help
Thank you in advance.

go to Dell link and install the Chipset driver - then Restart your comp

if realtek audio go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Tick I accept the above – wait till site resets then click Next

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

If Sound Card get the driver from Dell -

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start instructions / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow
