User Account cannot open in Control Panel

[quote=Hardhat101]I am using a Compaq tablet PC and have Windows XP for Tablet PC installed.

The windows boots up by default to the Administrator account. When I tried using the User Account function in the Control Panel to create / switch user, it would not start up.

I have also tried using the Computer Management tool but when I click on the Local Users and Groups item, it give me an error "Unable to access the computer XXX. The error was: Invalid syntax" and this feature is marked with a red 'X'.

How do I resolve this short of having to reinstall the OS and what could be causing this problem?

I have only managed to create an alternative User account but using the Run "control userpasswords2" to do a "backdoor" entry into the user accounts management program and create / delete users.

However, even after doing the above, although I am able to create a new user, I still cannot access the user accounts via the conventional means.

Help, anyone out there who has a solution to this problem!!!

I have just now solved a similar problem as yours that I had been struggling with for 5 hours. I was getting ready to throw my computer off a nearby bridge when I read your reference to the "backdoor". My settings have now been restored. A thousand thanks. Good luck with your particular problem....David (Melbourne)
