I have no audio! I'm at my wit's end trying to fix this thing.

I have recently had a run in with Antivirus XP 08 and had to do a system restore in order to fix its after-effects. After the system restore, I was unable to hear anything from my speakers. I tested the speakers on a Walkman and then worked fine. When look in Control Panel> Sound and Audio Devices, everything in the 'Volume' tab is grayed-out and it just says 'No Audio Device.' Under the 'Audio' tab, 'Sound recording' and 'MIDI music playback' are both functioning and display the correct audio device. 'Sound playback,' however, is also grayed-out. A look in the 'Device Manager' reveals that everything is working properly. All drivers are up-to-date, enabled, and are functioning correctly.

Here is a list of the failed solutions I have attempted so far:
-windows troubleshooter
-update drivers
-roll back drivers
-uninstall & reinstall drivers
-enable on-board audio in BIOS
-disable on-board audio in BIOS
-set on-board audio in BIOS to AUTO
-check windows audio service (already set to automatic/started)
-stop windows audio service
-restart windows audio service
-stop windows audio service, reboot, restart service
-power-drain pc
-buy new sound card
-disable on-board audio in BIOS
-set on-board audio in BIOS to AUTO
-update new sound card's drivers
-uninstall new sound card, switch PCI ports, reinstall new sound card
