Well I've been reading alot of posts arguing over the issues and comparing both the operating systems, so I have decided to research this issue and find out what operating system is TRULY the best.
Category 1~ Gaming:
This an an obvious one, when it comes to gaming with Vista all you get is " Not responding" Or " The program has stopped unexpectedly". This makes Vista a horrible gaming Operating system. So if your into gaming go for XP so you know you will get the most out of your system and wont get all these annoying random "Not responding" pop-ups.
Vista: 0 XP: 1
Category 2~ Performance:
On an article I am reading "
Here’s a few highlights. First, XP was fastest on the two dual-boot machines, and that was without any effort optimizing XP for performance. In both cases, the best Vista performance was about 15.5 per cent slower than XP, based on the PassMark performance index. On one machine the worst Vista performance was 28 per cent slower, and on the other 23 per cent slower.". As you can see Vista performed significantly slower in this task. All the little background services, visual effects and various other extras Vista has would be the most probable cause for this.
Vista: 0 XP: 2
Category 3~ Visual appeal:
Lets face it, Windows XP is ugly to look at, consisting of a lot of green, blue and white. Theres not much too look at. Vista, with it's stunning new "glass" effects have crippled XP in this manner, with its new "Aero" theme and the premium dream scene ( can set a video as desktop wall paper) it makes XP look plain ugly. But of course, this is in my opinion so you might think different.
Vista: 1 XP: 2
Category 4~ Interface:
Both operating systems in this category are fairly even, both consisting of easy-to-use interfaces. It really comes down to what system your used to using. Though, as an improvement, vista has added a few little extras that people may not have noticed. Such as the new right-click option " open file location", which is easy when you need to find where the program is hiding on your hard drive, also the little search bar in the start menu is very useful and easy to use when you need to find a single document and don't feel like going through half a dozen folders to find it. In my opinion Vista has won this debate.
Vista: 2 XP: 2
Category 5~ Security:
Microsoft have claimed that Vista is the most improved and most secure windows operating system available, and funny enough, have ACTUALLY lived up to the claim. Offering better firewalls, new security features and more security options Vista beats XP by far in this manner.
Vista: 3 XP: 2
Category 6~ Compatibility:
Another obvious one, a self explanatory category XP wins this for sure. Vista really needs to catch up with its compatibility and with only a handful of software which is designed for Vista, Vista is confined to that handful of software until they fix the issue ( unless you pick a program designed for XP and earlier versions of windows that on pure chance works with Vista )
Vista: 3 XP: 3
Category 7~ How well does the system use its resources:
This isn't too hard to think about, Vista being the power,RAM, hard drive, processor hungry thing it is XP wins this by far. As opposed to the 15gb installation for Vista, XP only needs a convieniant 3.5 bg of hard drive space. And the amount of RAM Vista takes it crazy ( 2gb recommended ). This is from all those little extra features names earlier. Vista is also hefty on the CPU. The down-side for XP is that the only version that supports multi core processing is XP pro where as all Vista versions support multi core processing. So on this debate XP has won
Vista: 3 XP: 4
