I had this problem once - If you contact the people you bought the disc from they might be able to help you out, but you have to have the reciept. The whole point of the serial number is to make sure that your copy of the Sims isn't being mass distributed illegally. If you haven't got the reciept and the store can't help you then you could try contacting Maxis, but I've heard that they aren't very helpful with things like this.
