i've had that exact same problem for over a year. I googled the whole net followed this thread for months but nothing worked. Even sent my computer to Acer for 5 (yeah, believe it or not!!!) times. NOTHING!
the standby-mode-tweak worked for me but only once or twice. Every other moment it seems like random choice of my freagin' Acer.
by the way, i have an Acer Travelmate2480 bought in Germany running on Windows XP-servicepack2. Same problem. I tried nearly everything people wrote here (apart from the freezer
) even sucked on the stupid lineout like mentioned earlier in this thread.
what finally made it for me was to disable the audiocontroller in the devicemanager....
